On the morning of September 27, at the Song Hau Industrial Park (Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province), Westfood Hau Giang Joint Stock Company held the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Hau Giang Food and Agricultural Product Processing Complex (Westfood Hau Giang factory).

The Westfood Hau Giang plant, meeting European standards, is being constructed on an area of 7 hectares, with a total investment of over 666 billion VND and a capacity of 30,000 tons of finished products per year.

The factory is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2025, providing employment for thousands of workers.

Upon completion, Westfood Hau Giang will be one of the largest agricultural processing plants in the western region.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and Director of Westfood Hau Giang Joint Stock Company, Westfood currently owns 150 hectares of pineapple raw material area in Phung Hiep district, of which 30% of the area meets the GlobalGAP standard.

Additionally, the company has signed an agreement with Phung Hiep district to develop the MD2 pineapple crop on 2,000 hectares over the next five years.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hau Giang province, expressed hopes that for the project’s swift completion, relevant units will continue to provide support and address challenges to ensure the factory begins operations promptly.

Hau Giang province currently has about 3,000 hectares of pineapple, mainly located in Vi Thanh city, Long My district, and Phung Hiep district. Alongside snakehead fish, Cau Duc pineapple is a renowned specialty of Hau Giang.

According to the Hau Giang Province Agricultural Development Program for the period 2021-2025, by 2025, the province’s pineapple cultivation area is expected to reach 3,500 hectares with a production of 45,000 tons per year.
